“Whether you host a feast for four people or forty, everybody will love it and you’ll have been a part of making a difference by doing something that you enjoy.” – Meredith Jones

Food is at the heart of all communities, transcending borders and language. Our shared love of food brings people from diverse backgrounds together and this is the power of Feast For Freedom.

Feast for Freedom is the coming together of community to share a meal and celebrate what unites while raising funds for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC).

ASRC volunteer and Footscray local Meredith Jones and her daughter Cleo, eight, are preparing to host their second Feast for Freedom fundraising event raising vital funds for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC).

Meredith and Cleo will be joined by hundreds of people, this March, preparing and sharing delicious Ethiopian, Persian and Papua New Guinean meals from recipes gifted by refugees.

“The decision to host this year was a no- brainer. It’s so simple. I love that you can host wherever you like, whenever you like. It’s so flexible.” Meredith Jones

Hosting a Feast really is deliciously simple.

Simply register to host your Feast at feastforfreedom.org.au and choose to cook recipes from either Ethiopia, Iran or Papua New Guinea or cook your own family favourites. You’ll receive a special host’s kit with the refugee recipes you’ve selected to cook along with other handy things to help you plan your Feast. Then set up your fundraising page, invite your guests and host a life-changing Feast, enjoying great company and a beautiful meal, while raising funds for people seeking asylum.

“This year we’re thinking of inviting double the people. Everyone loved it so much. It was all about community and compassion and a lot of fun, fundraising was a byproduct of a great day,” said Meredith. “Some of our friends who attended our feast last year are hosting their own this year.”

Join Meredith and Cleo this month and host your very own Feast for Freedom. Find out more at feastforfreedom.org.au or call 1300 692 772.

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.
