WHAT KEPT ME GOING THROUGH LOCKDOWN(S)

    Date:

    By Richard Slater

    Many things provided a diversion:

Zoom meetings – a virtual wine tasting where a small group talked about wines based on a weekly theme; another group tried to provide some basic music theory, strumming variations and “playalong” adding some new songs into our repertoire – and importantly providing the motivation to practice

SBS on demand; a free streaming service with the French thriller series Spiral a riveting recommendation

The (free) internet Archive; many out-of print books I have been seeking for years (Squire Haggard’s Journal, Sherlock Homes) plus streaming Buster Keaton, and much more

Local libraries- exploring their e-resources with one physical drop-off

Plus exploring the local walking trails- a new activity for the family!

Richard lives in Altona Meadows with his partner and daughter. Pre-COVID, he thrashed the local Men's Shed, various libraries, and U3A. He is learning guitar (acoustic and electric) and blues harmonica,  merrily cluttering home with books, CDs and classic DVDs. Sweetworldwines.com is his outlet for selected reviews and wine-related humour.

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.
