The Wyndham Community Garden Swap is a group of friendly gardeners who meet once per month in Hoppers Crossing. It is an ideal gathering for like-minded residents who loathe waste and like to share surplus produce, plants, seeds and any gardening related items.
A monthly cuppa is always on offer, often with home-baked goodies, along with helpful gardening knowledge and tips.
I’m the founder and coordinator of the event and a long time Wyndham Resident. I’ve enjoyed watching the group progress and many friendships form over the past 16 years.
One of those friends is keen gardener Sunita Rawal who says she enjoys exchanging gardening tips and building a strong community around food. “Being part of the swap encourages sustainable living and inspires me to keep growing, sharing, and supporting local gardeners,” says Sunita.
It is so rewarding to see how much our community has evolved over the years and goes to show that gardening groups are not just for the ‘Golden Oldies’ anymore. The WCGS has become a multicultural group of all ages. I enjoy meeting and introducing brand-new ‘first-timers’ to our group each month.
If the WCGS group may be of interest to you, and you’d like more info, then do join us on the ‘Wyndham Community Garden Swap’ Facebook page.
We meet on the FIRST SUNDAY of each month at Mossfiel Reserve in Hoppers Crossing at 10am and we love to welcome new gardeners joining us each month. This is a free event and no money is exchanged.
