One of my favourite genres – Black Comedy Political Thriller! From the Academy Award winning maker of classics In Bruges, Three Billboards and The Banshees of Inisherin.

Shortly before the 1973 Chilean coup, CIA agents Chris and Lee are dispatched from Santiago to Easter Island by their bureau chief, MJ. Amongst the island’s iconic statues, and as the longtime partners wrestle with their dark pasts and present conspiracies, Chris’s newfound bond with a pair of rebellious students threatens to send everyone’s trip to this remote paradise sideways. Looks delicious.

WICKER

Duration: 105 mins
Director: Alex Huston Fischer, Eleanor Wilson
Cast: Olivia Colman, Alexander Skarsgård, Peter Dinklage, Elizabeth Debicki, Richard E. Gran
Genre: Fantasy, drama, romance
Opens: NOV 05

Looks like it’s Black Comedy month. Who better than Olivia Colman with her dry wit to step into the role of “The Fisherwoman” living on the outskirts of a village by the sea; she’s “smelly, single and perpetually ridiculed”. One day, fed up with her stuffy, small-minded neighbours, she commissions herself a husband to be made from wicker. In an otherwise conservative town, this unconventional romance sparks outrage, jealousy and chaos. Looks like fabulous fun.

HOW TO ROB A BANK

Who’s robbing who?

From acclaimed director David Leitch (The Fall Guy, Bullet Train), comes the action-comedy heist hit HOW TO ROB A BANK, a sharp, witty and satirical exploration of the cost of the pursuit of social media validation and the dangers of corporate control.

A crew of social media-savvy bank robbers broadcast their daring heists to inspire others to fight back against a corrupt system, unaware that their growing viral fame has put them in the crosshairs of a veteran FBI agent and a brilliant software engineer. Despite the unlikely duo closing in, the crime ring pushes past their limits, putting everything on the line for their beliefs in their most ambitious heist yet.

Continuing November’s theme of Black Comedy and Satire… At a ritzy private school, Maria’s class is plagued by the epic bad behaviour of one extremely foul-mouthed and disruptive child, Danny. After he has a violent altercation with another student, Maria is forced to take action. And when Danny doesn’t show up for the next few days, she is shocked at how easily the parents accept his absence — and don’t want him back. As things spiral even further out of control, Maria is caught between her own bad choices, the utter lack of concern from her community, and the less-than-angelic behaviour of her other students.
