We’re so happy you’ve made your way over here.
When new writers join The Westsider community, a very common question that we get asked is ‘what is E-Gen?’. E-Gen stands for Emerging Generation, the new future of the world that is gradually making its way to the frontlines of adulthood. This section is all about young people presenting their raw voices and ideas to the world, bringing light to themes that truly matter to us.
This is a space led by two passionate writers who are committed to amplifying the voices of the West’s youth, and giving young writers the opportunity to cover topics important to them! After taking over from the previous E-Gen co-editors in October 2025, we realised that we never formally introduced ourselves to The Westsider community as the new co-editors of E-Gen.
So, here it is!
Siya Singh
Hi everyone, I’m Siya!
I am passionate about all things storytelling, and have been contributing to E-Gen as a writer for over three years now! Since its inception in 2023, the E-Gen section has grown to become an important part of the Westsider newspaper, presenting authentic and valuable insights from young people about things that matter to us.
While we have come a long way since 2023, we are still growing and always eager to welcome new writers to the team! If you are a young writer based in the Western suburbs of Melbourne, please reach out to us via the contact information at the bottom of this page. E-Gen is not just a platform to build your journalistic abilities, but also a stage to talk about, and initiate conversation on topics that matter to you.
Ksenia Kurenysheva
Hey everyone! My name is Ksenia, and I’m currently a Year 11 high school student.
I’ve been devoted to writing for many years now, starting off with mini fictional stories in primary school and evolving into full fledged manuscripts in recent years.
My list of interests is never ending, but overall summarised into three categories: healthcare, communication and literature. With that being said, I’m still constantly exploring new passions and hobbies, and the E-Gen column is designed to allow students like you to do the exact same!
I was introduced to E-Gen through my school about two years ago, and wrote consistently for the column about all things technology, medical research and human evolution. It provided me with a reputable and rewarding platform to write in any style I desired, about anything I wanted to discuss. Additionally, participating in this column has exposed me to a range of other compelling opportunities, such as Westsider Radio and various Westsider launch parties and outings.
