I represent a group of 20 Yarraville shop owners that are strongly against the permanent closure of Anderson St as part of planned level crossing removal. We have had no genuine consultation. Closure of our street will destroy our trade and livelihoods!

Thing is everyone uses online services and therefore it needs these services. You cant complain without having a suitable solution and people everywhere will always complain.

Sick of all these pretty words from politicians who have no accountability. Why were the data centres even allowed to be built in the first place so near to houses. What good is a ‘productive’ chat with the premier now when the damn thing is already built. Shouldn’t the politician be getting on the front foot and rejecting the data centres on behalf of the residents before it was approved for construction rather than waiting on residents to protest first and then ‘oh now I will start doing my job’.

I feel for these residents and what they’ve gone through. That land was always industrial. What would they have preferred there? Anything that was built there was always going to be seen as bad.

If you use thermal imagining on the data centre you’ll see how much heat they emit. The areas around them are 10 degrees hotter, worse in Summer. They will be cooking our neighbourhoods and the whole planet. What happened to lowering emissions and global warming???

17 years. That seems like more than enough time for action at state or local government levels. Banco needs to come out from under their rock and engage with the community. If they can’t do anything with the site they should sell it. This also applies to the owners of the other abandoned development sites in Footscray’s CBD. If not for their own self interests, at least for the community. Someone has to make the first move to reverse Footscray’s decline. Small efforts just aren’t going to cut it. In fact, they are arguably counterproductive as attracting a few new people to the area just reinforces the negative perceptions.

How about putting the new Basketball stadium there instead of putting it on the green space at McIvor reserve like the council is planning to do. It is a no brainer
