FLICKTACULAR TIMES HAPPENING MID-WEEK IN FOOTSCRAY

    Date:

    – anyone for a game of Crokinole?

    by Derek Atkinson

Are you looking for a new social group where you can enjoy beer and pizza and test your dexterity skills? Then look no further than Footscray Flickers Crokinole Club!

What on earth is Crokinole you say? Crokinole dates way back to the 1870s and is a dexterity board game of Canadian origin, similar in various ways to pitchnut, carrom, marbles, shove ha’penny, with elements of shuffleboard and curling reduced to table-top size. Players take turns flicking discs across the circular playing surface, trying to have their discs land in the higher-scoring regions of the board, while also attempting to knock away opposing discs.

The Club was established by local founding father flickers Derek Atkinson and Alex Baldie during the brief windows of freedom enjoyed in 2020. What started as a COVID-19 distraction has now blossomed into a rapidly growing community of flick-minded individuals. The Footscray Flickers now consider themselves to be Melbourne’s oldest and most loved Crokinole Club.

Games are on once per month in the beer garden of Domenico’s Pizza & Pastaria on Barkly Street, Footscray to challenge each other to the most flicktacular evening you will witness this side of the Maribyrnong.

All welcome to join them for the start of the 2022 season which flicks off on Wednesday night 16th February from 7pm.
