Supporting a grassroots not-for-profit with a big heart

    Date:

Throughout the month of March, the Community Bank Seddon will be welcoming donations of essential items for babies and toddlers on behalf of Big Group Hug.

Big Group Hug supports vulnerable children living in crisis in the northern and western suburbs of Melbourne by seeking and then distributing essential items in times of need. They choose to address childhood poverty in a way that contributes to global sustainability. Every day they up-cycle, recycle and rehome items, while their community reach strives to inform and educate.

In 2023, they helped 6002 children, providing over 120,000 items including 395 cots and bassinets to ensure babies had a safe place to sleep.

Requested items include: Baby formula, nappies, nappy cream, wipes, wraps, baby monitors, foam change mats, bibs, single bed sheets and mattress protectors. And for mum – pads, tampons and roll on deodorant.

Donations will be kindly accepted at the Community Bank Seddon, 90 Charles Street, Seddon, Monday – Friday 9.30am- 4.00pm

Big Group Hug also graciously accepts donations of new or pre-loved goods for children aged between newborn and 16 years old. They humbly ask that you only donate items that are clean, in good, working condition and comply with Australian safety standards. For donations outside of the scope of this current campaign, please contact Big Group Hug via their website biggrouphug.org

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.

If you loved reading this article please consider donating to the Westsider. Support from you gives local writers an outlet and ensures an independent voice can be found in the west.
