Should/how can Council support local businesses?
The council has a vital role in supporting our local businesses, especially during these tough economic times. The council must step up with meaningful actions, such as offering more generous rate relief for businesses that are struggling, increasing grants for start-ups, and simplifying the permit and licensing processes to make it easier for businesses to operate. Small businesses are the heart of our community, and it’s crucial that council provide the support they need to survive and flourish.
Should/how can Council support local creatives and industries?
Yes, the council should absolutely support local creatives and industries. This can be achieved by providing accessible spaces for artists and creative groups to work and showcase their talents, such as community centres or pop-up galleries. Hosting events and festivals that celebrate local creativity can also boost tourism and strengthen community bonds. Additionally, offering networking and business support will help creatives connect with new opportunities and audiences.
Should/how can Council help alleviate the impact of climate extremes on local communities and ecosystems?
Councils can play a key role in alleviating the impact of climate extremes on local communities and ecosystems by implementing a range of proactive measures. Councils can promote sustainable urban planning by increasing green spaces, supporting biodiversity, implementing water conservation practices, improving energy efficiency in public facilities & investing in renewable energy.
Should/how can Council help alleviate cost of living and homelessness?
The Council can provide targeted financial relief, such as reduced rates and utility subsidies for struggling households. Supporting local services, like food banks and community welfare programs, ensures that those facing hardship receive the essentials they need. Collaborating with state governments to increase funding for social services, mental health support, and job creation programs will also help tackle the root causes of homelessness and financial strain.
What should Council stop spending money on?
The Council should reduce or avoid spending on projects that don’t directly benefit the community. Unnecessary administrative expenses and repeated services across departments should be simplified to work better and save money. By cutting back on non-essential spending, funds can be redirected to important areas like improving infrastructure, supporting community services, and helping local businesses and residents who are struggling.
Should the public be allowed to ask live, unscripted questions of councillors during council meetings?
Yes, the public should be able to ask live, unscripted questions to councillors during meetings. This helps create transparency and accountability, allowing people to talk directly to their elected officials. It also makes meetings more open and inclusive. While it’s essential to keep meetings organized, having set times for questions can improve public participation and strengthen the bond between councillors and the community they represent.
Can you please provide a short personal statement detailing what your priorities are if elected, and what your vision for your electorate looks like.
I aim to promote accountability, transparency, and fairness while ensuring community voices are heard. During the current financially challenging times of high cost of living, I will push to keep rates and fees as low as possible. I will advocate for more pensioner and low-income earners discounts and make sure we take care of essential repairs to roads, drains, and footpaths, while also prioritizing public safety, community well-being, and cleanliness in our streets. I will be involve in more public consultation to solve any upcoming or ongoing issues affecting our community.
