LOCALS WELCOME WEST FOOTSCRAY WINES WITH MUCH FANFARE IN BARKLY VILLAGE

    Date:

The renaissance of Barkly Street West Footscray over the last 12 months in particular has been welcomed by locals with more of us at working from home and wanting to hang local.

But we’re not done yet – enter West Footscray Wines, a relaxed neighbourhood wine store and bar in the heart of Barkly village.

West Footscray Wines has a generous, interesting and approachable selection of wines, beers and spirits. There’s also a great range of cheese, meats and all the condiments to add to your picnic hamper.

Be ready to try their speciality; luscious, freshly shucked oysters from local premium oyster supplier, Tim and Terry’s in Sunshine North. The focus is on Australian wine and produce with knowledgeable staff on hand to help select the right drop.

Owned by a local inner west family, Zac Potier has run restaurants and bars all over Melbourne, and is excited to bring something closer to home. “We’ve wanted to open a wine store for a number of years and have always loved Barkly Village.”

Wine and other products can be purchased to take away or enjoy instore. If sitting in there’s also a changing ‘by the glass’ menu and cocktails on offer, and good people watching spots at the front window, a larger tasting room out back, or sit at the bar and chat to friendly staff and locals.

The exciting thing about this new inner west haunt is what is planned for the near future. West Footscray Wines plans to hold weekly tastings with a selection of wineries, breweries and distilleries in the tasting room.

Hampers stocked with curated wines and smallgoods will be ready to go for the summer months. Drop in to West Footscray Wines to pick up a bottle or three of a great selection of vino on the way to your next drinks, dinner party or to enjoy at home.

West Footscray Wines is at 1/ 578 Barkly Street West Footscray

Our content is a labour of love, crafted by dedicated volunteers who are passionate about the west. We encourage submissions from our community, particularly stories about your own experiences, family history, local issues, your suburb, community events, local history, human interest stories, food, the arts, and environmental matters. It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.
