The Westsider team celebrated a very special milestone in August. On a cold and wintry night at Kindred Studios in Yarraville members of our radio team gathered for inaugural drinks to meet each other and honour the achievements of the last year.
For those who haven’t been paying attention, The Westsider launched an internet radio station last year to amplify the voices and music of the West. It’s been a very steep learning curve for all involved but thanks to the passion and efforts of a small team of volunteers we are now broadcasting an incredible offering of local voices and music.
A massive shout out to station manager Adam Weatherhead and program manager Mario Pinti, as well as Jean Anselmi, Adam Hutterer, Harvey Jepson, and the incredible streaming and listen-back uploading teams.

A great start would be Westside Stories hosted by Fiona Scott-Norman, a fortnightly exploration of arts events in the West including interviews with some of the incredible creatives who live here.
Beyond the Surface hosted by Muffy Ali celebrates cool people doing kind things.
For music lovers I’d recommend Afroculture hosted by Tobe featuring a vast array of Afrobeats. There’s also Doorstep, hosted by Marcus Brooke-Smith, a monthly taste of music in the West including local artists, local gigs and local releases. And there’s Frownland, hosted by Joshua Hodson-Smith owner of Footscray Records covering everything from devotional drones and darkwave obscurities to country heartbreak and free jazz.
There’s plenty of content created by young Westies too like Owen and Wolfgang Reydio Show, High Voltage, and Come Chat With Us.
Footy fans can’t go past The One-Eyed Dog – three blokes providing a very biased account of the Western Bulldogs with ‘limited insightful analysis’. And my personal favourite Hidden Letters hosted by Kyle Connolly and Jacob Tiauli, uncovering the hidden figures, events and queer histories of the West.
But honestly, I’m just scraping the surface here. With close to 40 shows and podcasts on offer there’s truly something for everyone at Westsider Radio, and it’s all algorithm free!
