    WESTSIDER PROFILES – ROBERT BURGUEÑO

    Date:

Robert Burgueño believes in the west. So do a lot of others around these parts, but Robert goes a step further each month – having backed The Westsider for two years straight through his business Cost Less Decor Blinds.

Reading that, it’s easy to say “oh yeah, advertiser whatever” but stop for a moment and think about it – every month he helps us provide you with the paper you are reading right now, and allows us  to continue advocating for the people, causes and activities of the inner west, many of whom would be voiceless without an accessible media platform like this.

An easy going, amiable fellow, Robert’s response is typically modest:

“Ha ha, well what I offer is a great range of affordable, quality products from Roller Blinds , Plantation Shutters, Roman Blinds , Venetians ,Curtains, Awnings and more all at the very best prices, and complete with a 5 Year Guarantee. But you make it sound so much more impressive!”

Robert loves the west and appreciates the support he’s received through working with The Westsider.

“People have come here from all over the region, that makes us feel like what we are trying to do is the right thing. They realise that we’re actually pretty close”

So what was it about The Westsider that caught his eye?

“The paper is great, it has such a community feel, stories that make you feel good and tell you a bit about the people and things going on. It’s very positive, I like that”

How has he seen the progress of the inner-west?

“So many changes, all for the better of course. It’s such a diverse area, lots of new things and improvements you can see straight away as you drive around.”

Robert has a few favourite haunts, he loves great coffee and enjoys good food with family and friends.

“Williamstown has been a favourite, a lot of choice and I love being close to the water. Footscray has always had an interesting mix and is great for Vietnamese, and Yarraville of course, all the places around the cinema are always pumping, some great choices.”

You can catch up with Robert at Cost Less Decor Blinds, 105 Buckley St, Essendon. They are open Monday to Friday 9-5pm, or  Saturday 9-3pm. Check them out on Facebook too @CostLessDecorBlinds, or go to their website www.cldb.com.au.

Our content is a labour of love, crafted by dedicated volunteers who are passionate about the west. We encourage submissions from our community, particularly stories about your own experiences, family history, local issues, your suburb, community events, local history, human interest stories, food, the arts, and environmental matters. Below are articles created by community contributors. You can find their names in the bylines.

    Did you know?

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.

If you loved reading this article please consider donating to the Westsider. Support from you gives local writers an outlet and ensures an independent voice can be found in the west.

If you're a business or community group, consider advertising in print or online, or becoming a community partner.
