THE GLORIOUS BOOTY-SHAKING RETURN OF ANNA’S GOGO ACADEMY

    Date:

    By Belle Hann

Anna Go-Go, foremost inner west glamour-puss, wants to get everyone dancing again. As founding head of Anna’s Go-Go Academy, she teaches an eclectic mix of iconic pop culture dances, such as disco and 80s moves (and gogo, of course!). Her beloved Footscray classes have been famous for being a great workout and a helluva lot of fun.

During COVID, Anna developed new devotees-her “Global GoGo Army” through her online dance classes. Her “life changing booty shaking” experiences still continue to be offered via Patreon, and includes an option to hear Anna’s weekly rant.

And now, Anna’s Go-Go Academy will be returning to in-person classes at Pride of our Footscray. Launching 16 March, Anna is thrilled to be back teaching on Tuesdays at 7:00pm. She says: “People need a dose of joy now more than ever!”

Don’t feel intimidated if you haven’t danced in ages or have two left feet. Anna creates an inclusive atmosphere where all abilities are welcome. She has also been an early champion for body positivity, a welcome departure from the somewhat snobby, skinny world of dance.

So there’s no excuse not to shake ya groove thing! See you on the dance floor by booking at https://www.trybooking.com/eventlist/pride/ Be sure to check out Anna’s website https://www.gogoacademy.com.au to learn more about this local treasure.

Our content is a labour of love, crafted by dedicated volunteers who are passionate about the west. We encourage submissions from our community, particularly stories about your own experiences, family history, local issues, your suburb, community events, local history, human interest stories, food, the arts, and environmental matters. Below are articles created by community contributors. You can find their names in the bylines.

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.
