Looking for something to do in the city on these last balmy nights of summer? Maybe watch a movie, or take a walk through the gardens… or why not both?
The Moonlight Cinema, located within the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria is still screening films throughout February and provides a welcome change of pace when it comes to watching movies. Its open-air, dynamic layout is vastly different from cramped, dark theatre rooms, allowing you to watch a movie under the stars!
Ticket prices start at $25, a bit pricey, but definitely worth the atmosphere.
But what to do once you get there?
As someone who’s gone before, I highly suggest bringing picnic blankets, snacks, drinks and even pillows (or beanbags!!) to get all comfy. Being there well before 7:00 PM provides you with enough time to find your preferred spot to view the movie and get comfortable. The viewing of the films begins at around 8:30 PM.
If you don’t bring your own, food and drinks are available for purchase but won’t be available while the movie is screening, so be sure to grab what you need ahead of time.
Additionally, ensure to plan ahead! Despite the warm weather during the day, cooler weather at night may mean bringing an extra layer of clothing and cosy blankets to snuggle with, while strong weather conditions such as extreme heat or rain can impact the viewing of the film, as in extreme cases it can be cancelled.
Booking tickets early online rather than on the day will save a lot of waiting time, so make sure to think ahead and consider it.
Overall, the relaxing atmosphere of being surrounded by such a beautiful garden allows you to enjoy a unique and memorable experience with friends, family or even just by yourself. A nice change of pace, especially if you enjoy watching movies!
