    RUNNING FOR PINK HOPE

    Date:

Run for Hope Melbourne is a 5km family friendly run/walk to raise money and awareness of Pink Hope, a charity that supports families with hereditary cancer.

Now in its 8th year, the next event on Sunday 23rd February will not only have the fun run but a jumping castle, sausage sizzle, raffle with great prizes, health information, massage tent, kids’ entertainment and heaps more!

The event was started in 2012 by Sarah Powell, a 13-year breast cancer survivor who was diagnosed at only 29 years old. She went on to discover she carries a BRCA1 mutation that predisposes her to both breast and ovarian cancer. This prompted her to have her breasts and ovaries removed and she now organises this fun run to support Pink Hope as they have supported her family, and will continue to do so, whatever happens once her children are old enough to be tested.

Register at runforhope.com.au and know that you are supporting a fun run where 100% of what you pay to register will be donated to charity. You can also follow: facebook/PinkHopeRunForHope and instagram@RunForHopeMelbournefundraising

Our content is a labour of love, crafted by dedicated volunteers who are passionate about the west. We encourage submissions from our community, particularly stories about your own experiences, family history, local issues, your suburb, community events, local history, human interest stories, food, the arts, and environmental matters. Below are articles created by community contributors. You can find their names in the bylines.

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.

If you loved reading this article please consider donating to the Westsider. Support from you gives local writers an outlet and ensures an independent voice can be found in the west.
