Op Shop Review – Deer Park Savers

Date:

By Ruby Fox

A fabulous store to complete our Deer Park shopping spree is their Savers! Just a ten minute walk from the Deer Park stores in my earlier reviews, this is the perfect final stop for your op shopping day.

It’s a 25 minute drive from Footscray and offers really easy access to heaps of off-street parking. While the public transport alternative is a little more difficult (involving at least two buses) it’s still manageable.

Now, what to buy! This store might just be my favourite Savers for one reason, the insane amount of shoes they stock! They have a really great range of shoes in all different sizes and I found some really cute work-appropriate shoes! Not just sandals and colourful heels but really classy, elegant formal shoes. And boots! High heel boots, flat boots, ankle boots. Definitely a winter essential.

Something that’s really been catching my attention lately is how people are styling their winter outfits. Everyone always seems to have a really cute, big coat on. Believe me, the coat section at this store will have you sorted as the selection is large.

Even though it’s autumn, I just couldn’t resist the summer dress section! They have at least three full racks of gorgeous frocks in all colours and styles. Enough to satisfy even my obsession.

The men’s section too is quite extensive, almost the same as the women’s which is something most op shops struggle with.

Crockery and knick knacks cover about a third of the store and my friend who accompanied me mentioned their awesome range of books, taking home quite a few!

While smaller than the Footscray Savers I think it makes for a better shopping experience. It’s much less overwhelming and I don’t feel like I have to rush through everything.

This op shop has something for everyone and is definitely worth a visit.

*As previously mentioned in my reviews, Savers Australia is owned by the US for-profit retailer Savers Value Village Inc, so is technically not an Op Shop, but it does partner with local non-profits like Red Nose Australia.

Everyone loves shopping, but with Cozzie Livs, global warming, micro-plastic pollution and overflowing landfills it’s important to find stores that are both affordable and sustainable. The perfect solution to both these problems? The good old Op Shop! For the next few months I’ll be visiting and reviewing Op Shops and second-hand stores from all over the westside and hopefully snare a bargain or two at the same time.

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.
