    MISINFORMATION ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND WHY YOU SHOULD INVEST IN A PERSONAL TRAINER

    With the increasing number of social media fitness influencers, it is hard to ignore how much information (and misinformation) there is at your fingertips for anything and everything fitness related. 

    Flick to one page and you will find them telling you that lifting until the point of failure is the only way to increase strength. A swipe down and you are being told x and y exercises will ‘smash your core’. You open up facebook and see a fitness model telling you to do ‘x exercise with your shoulders in y position only’.  

    With this information being readily available at our fingertips, why then would you invest in personal training? Listed here are some (but certainly not all) the reasons/benefits of personal training.

    Safety

    A qualified personal trainer will perform a pre-exercise questionnaire which will involve a comprehensive review of your health and readiness to exercise; injury history, previous/current health concerns, training history etc. 

    Information you can trust

    A qualified personal trainer can sift through the misinformation and provide you with the correct exercise program for you. A program designed specifically for your needs, wants and desires. A program that sets you up to succeed, avoids injury and creates long-lasting lifestyle change. 

    Education and reassurance

    It takes years of training experience to fully understand how to move appropriately in the gym. By no means is there an ‘optimal’ way of lifting/moving, but there is a healthy spectrum that should be adhered to. A good personal trainer will provide you with the correct technique, and on subsequent visits either make minor adjustments or reassure you that you are nailing that back squat (for example).

    Support, accountability and motivation

    A great personal trainer will empower you to be the best version of yourself. They are there because they want you to succeed. They are there when your motivation is waning, and by having personal training sessions organised, they consequently keep you accountable in your fitness journey.
