    Love Is All I Have

    Date:

By Kavya Kataria – By Mesmerisia?

    They say “love always wins”.

I have love in my heart, but all I hear are cries.

    Our countries are falling apart.

The Rich only care about themselves and running

    away from embezzlement.

Who’s going to save my brothers and sisters from

    exhaustion?

All they do is study and work but still get blamed for

    your country’s problems.

    “Immigrants this. Immigrants that.”

How will your economy function without us? Who

    will we go to?

Who is looking out for us?

Rich white men are coming to hurt us
How do I protect my family?

My brothers and sisters are looking to me for

    protection, safety and love.
Love is all I can give.

With empathy hands, big hopes and dreams, we came
here with a big fantasy of being a new member to

    your community.
    Of “fitting in”.

Of being the new family in your neighbourhood.
Some showed love. Some showed indifference.
    Others

    showed hatred.

You know what’s in your heart, but I know what’s in

    your lineage.

    You know what they’ve done.
    All the history they erased.
We can still love you. Why can’t you?

Why are you still the same as your ancestors who did

    horrible acts to us?

We are so brave for trusting and loving you.
After all, love is all we can give, and love is all I have.

Talk about our strengths, our acts and our strong love.
Treat us right. Don’t blame us for your difficult lives
when we have got too much on our plates too.

    We can solve this together.
We can change the world together.

We can change everyone’s perspectives together.
We can fill everyone’s hearts with love.
Love is all we can give, and love is all I have.

Our content is a labour of love, crafted by dedicated volunteers who are passionate about the west. We encourage submissions from our community, particularly stories about your own experiences, family history, local issues, your suburb, community events, local history, human interest stories, food, the arts, and environmental matters. Below are articles created by community contributors. You can find their names in the bylines.

    Did you know?

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.

If you loved reading this article please consider donating to the Westsider. Support from you gives local writers an outlet and ensures an independent voice can be found in the west.
