Recently, I had the joy of attending the launch of Hobsons Bay Through the Lens: Celebrating 60 Years of the Williamstown Camera Club at the Louis Joel Arts & Community Centre in Altona.
This photography exhibition celebrated the amazing talents of the Williamstown Camera Club and our local community. The theme was ‘A Day in the Life of Hobsons Bay’ – a beautiful way to share the people, places, and everyday moments that make our area so special.
In the lead-up to the exhibition, the club ran a special photography competition inviting the Hobsons Bay community to submit photos showing a day in their life here. Entries were displayed at the exhibition and the winner received a trophy and a year’s membership to the Williamstown Camera Club – a lovely way to encourage more local photographers to get involved.
I was so happy and a little surprised to learn that my photo, ‘Seaholme Shine: A Morning Divine’, was commended in the exhibition. It was such a proud moment to see it on display alongside so many stunning images from people from the area who also love capturing the magic of Hobsons Bay.
The launch event included a warm welcome, a presentation of winning and commended entries, and lots of friendly faces. It was clear that every photo had a story behind it, and the room was full of shared smiles, memories, and inspiration.
This exhibition was more than just pictures on a wall. It was a celebration of our shared home, our stories, and the moments that often go unnoticed. It was also a special way to mark 60 years of the Williamstown Camera Club – the oldest continually operating photo club in Hobsons Bay and the western suburbs.
This project was proudly supported by the Hobsons Bay City Council through the Make it Happen Grants program. And thanks to the Williamstown Camera Club for bringing our community together through creativity and photography.
