Are you a member of a political party, political group, or community advocacy group?

Yes I am a member of liberals, but I am currently an independent candidate. My focus is on representing the interests of all residents in our community rather than aligning with a specific party. I believe this allows me to advocate for diverse perspectives and address issues more effectively.

What is the most important issue facing your electorate?

The most pressing issue facing our electorate is the rising cost of living and inclusivity for all . Many families are struggling to make ends meet, and it’s vital that we find ways to support them through practical policies and community programs.

Investing in the creative sector can enhance community engagement and contribute to local economic growth along with multiculturalism.

Should/how can Council help alleviate the impact of climate extremes on local communities and ecosystems?

To alleviate cost of living pressures, Council can advocate for affordable housing initiatives, support job training programs along with people with special needs , and partner with local organizations to provide resources for those experiencing homelessness. It’s essential to create a safety net for our most vulnerable residents.

What should Council stop spending money on?

Council should review any programs or projects that do not yield a clear benefit to the community or that have consistently underperformed. Prioritizing funding for essential services and community needs is crucial for effective governance.

Should the public be allowed to ask live, unscripted questions of councillors during council meetings?

Absolutely, public engagement is vital for a healthy democracy. Allowing live, unscripted questions fosters transparency and accountability, ensuring that councillors remain connected to the community’s concerns.

Can you please provide a short personal statement detailing what your priorities are if elected, and what your vision for your electorate looks like?

If elected, my top priorities will be addressing the cost of living, supporting local businesses and creatives, and promoting sustainability within our community. I envision an inclusive and vibrant electorate where all residents feel heard and valued, with access to resources that enable them to thrive. I am committed to fostering open communication and collaboration to create a brighter future for everyone in our community.

On your behalf we have asked every candidate who put their hand up to stand in Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong and Wyndham the same set of questions that were formulated with the feedback of the Westsider readers.

Our thanks goes to first year RMIT Journalism students, who helped contact candidates as part of their final assessment in COMM2835, Journalism: Reporting and Writing.

A big shout out to Dr Josie Vine, a Westsider regular, who coordinated the project and Dr Sharon Smith who so graciously lent us her students and devised the activity as part of their assessment.
