Footscray
By Gary Lee
Footscray is such a dynamic place to live, eat, shop and play! There is always something new to discover in addition to all the familiarities we love.
My friend Elle and I really enjoy visiting Footscray, especially on a sunny day, so here’s what a typical day in Footscray looks like for us!
Small Graces
$ 40.30
Eggs on toast Apple crumble waffles Two lattes
We started the day with brunch at Small Graces! My pick? The apple crumble waffles with spiced maple syrup and house made vanilla ice-cream, while Elle wanted something lighter, so she opted for eggs on toast. The lattes were absolutely divine!
Footscray Market and street traders
FREE
We love visiting the bustling Footscray market and street traders on Saturdays. It’s community spirit at its best and a wonderful way to immerse ourselves in what Footscray is all about – its people!
To’s Bakery, The 2 Men Café and CoCo Fresh Tea & Juice
$ 6
Latte Bánh tiêu
We wanted a snack for our walk, so we decided to share a freshly made bánh tiêu (hollow Vietnamese donuts coated with fragrant sesame seeds) from To’s Bakery. As I enjoy eating this by dunking the pastry into coffee, we shared a latte from our favourite coffee place, The 2 Men Café.
Quarry Park
FREE
Quarry Park is one of my favourite spots to visit, particularly during lockdown and it’s now a place I visit regularly. It’s a large open space with panoramic views of the city skyline and the Maribyrnong River.
Maribyrnong River Walking Trail
FREE
This walk is beautiful all year long. People come here to fish, picnic, cycle and for the playground and outdoor gyms! Whenever we are here, we always visit the ‘little zoo’ and community garden created by a local resident, which features chickens, birds, rabbits and an adorable ferret! What a treat! West is Best!
