TWO OUT OF THREE AIN’T BAD FOR VU SPURS

    Date:

2019 was arguably the most successful season to date for the VU Western Spurs. The standalone Australian Rules Football Club fields three Senior Women’s teams and last year all three made their respective grand finals with two walking away with the grand prize.

Despite an interrupted and delayed start to the 2020 season, the Spurs have been working hard to prepare for a new challenge as they join the EDFL competition and look to add more silverware to the clubs name. Preseason training sessions under new head coach Ian Denny have been a great challenge and exciting time with lots of new faces joining the Spurs of the Mighty West. Denny had this to say about preseason and the club since joining us, “You can always count on the girls enthusiasm and eagerness to learn, however, the most impressive piece for me has been the willingness to be inclusive especially with new people coming down.”

If you’d like to become a part of the VU Western Spurs as a player or a volunteer, we are still on the hunt for some new recruits and welcome all with open arms! Be sure to get in touch with us today at spursfooty@gmail.com or if you’d like to support the Spurs in 2020 off the field we have a number of players and club sponsorship options which may suit you. Please email vuspurs.sponsorship@gmail.com to discuss how you can be involved further!

Our content is a labour of love, crafted by dedicated volunteers who are passionate about the west. We encourage submissions from our community, particularly stories about your own experiences, family history, local issues, your suburb, community events, local history, human interest stories, food, the arts, and environmental matters. Below are articles created by community contributors. You can find their names in the bylines.

    Did you know?

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.

If you loved reading this article please consider donating to the Westsider. Support from you gives local writers an outlet and ensures an independent voice can be found in the west.
