Ambassador for the Stroke Foundation & Advocate for Social Inclusion
By David Jones & Sarah Tartakover
Twenty years ago, at the age of 12, Tommy Quick suffered a stroke that left him with limited movement on the right side of his body. This greatly impacted many aspects of his life, including his education in year seven at Footscray High School.
With the support of many people, including his family, friends, teachers, medical professionals and others, Tommy went on to complete an undergraduate degree at Victoria University. Tommy has also conquered the Kokoda Track, recently started a Masters degree and has composed and recorded songs, amongst many other achievements.
Tommy is about to start riding his recumbent trike over 400 kms from Howlong (NSW) to Canberra. Whilst in Canberra, Tommy is planning to talk with a range of Federal politicians about the funding and resources needed for stroke prevention, treatment and research, particularly into the causes of childhood stroke.
This will be the third long distance endurance ride that Tommy has organised in the last four years with the support of his amazing parents Rena and Clive and other members of The 4 Points Australia support team. So far on his rides Tommy has covered nearly 11,000 kms, raising more than $150,000 for the Stroke Foundation. Hopefully this latest ride will add to that amount.
