The community-focused approach against crime for a safer Hobsons Bay

    Date:

    By Neighbourhood Watch Hobsons Bay

With crime on the rise, and statistics showing Hobsons Bay had the second highest increase of any local government area within metropolitan Melbourne,  Neighbourhood Watch Hobsons Bay was formed to educate the community on practical crime prevention measures, work collaboratively with Hobsons Bay Police, Council and local MP’s to help foster strong local networks and advocate for improved safety infrastructure across Hobsons Bay.

Although we’re newly formed we’ve already gained many Facebook followers, and group members. Both get the benefit of the best practice crime prevention methods we share. However, members are invited to our quarterly member meetings to learn what we’re working on and the progress we’ve made. They also have a voice in shaping our future focus, and may (if interested) volunteer to help us at local events from time to time.

Please join us at the next Neighbourhood Watch Hobsons Bay Community Meeting at the Brooklyn Community Hall. Discover our next meeting date on Facebook or use the QR code to the right.

It’s a great opportunity to meet our team, Hobsons Bay Police force and others,  hear local updates, catch up with other members and learn more about how you can contribute to a safer Hobsons Bay.

Together, we can make Hobsons Bay an even better place to live, work, and raise families, now and into the future.

Our content is a labour of love, crafted by dedicated volunteers who are passionate about the west. We encourage submissions from our community, particularly stories about your own experiences, family history, local issues, your suburb, community events, local history, human interest stories, food, the arts, and environmental matters. Below are articles created by community contributors. You can find their names in the bylines.

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.

If you loved reading this article please consider donating to the Westsider. Support from you gives local writers an outlet and ensures an independent voice can be found in the west.
