THE MOMENT

Rating: CTC
Duration: 103 mins
Director: Aidan Zamiri
Cast: Charli xcx, Alexander Skarsgård, Rosanna Arquette
Genre: Drama, music, comedy
Opens: MAR 05
I’m fascinated by this idea. Latest pop sensation, Charli xcx, stars as a rising pop star in a flashy, tongue-in-cheek hyper-pop mockumentary who navigates the complexities of fame and industry pressure while preparing for her arena tour debut.
The Moment is described as “Charli xcx’s creative reflection on her own meteoric success with brat.” Directed and co-written by “360” music video director Aidan Zamiri in his feature debut, the film has a stylishly effortless rhythm and a uniquely self-aware, ironic sense of humour. Charli xcx plays an exaggeratedly manic version of herself, surrounded by a cast of characters that mirror both the friends and foes of the era. Hailey Gates and Alexander Skarsgård personify near-diametrically opposed influences in Charli xcx’s dynamic career; pieces in the grand scheme of brat’s enduring cultural power. Strangely, I can’t wait!
THE VOICE OF HIND RAJAB

Powerful, subtle yet crucial film making. Winner of the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize 2025 Venice Film Festival, Oscar-nominated director Kaouther Ben Hania blends actual recordings and scripted performances to tell the devastating true story of Hind Rajab, a Palestinian girl trapped in a car under Israeli military fire, and the first responders who tried to save her.
On January 29, 2024, Red Crescent volunteers in Gaza received a desperate call from a family trapped in a car under Israeli military fire. Moments later, only six-year-old Hind Rajab remained on the line, begging to be rescued. As paramedics had been killed in the area days earlier, the Red Crescent was forced to navigate a maze of military and governmental approvals before a rescue attempt could even be considered. Hind stayed on the call, scared and alone, as dispatchers tried to help.

There should be a genre called “Unlikely person sent to outer space to save all of mankind and ends up a hero.” In this film, based on the novel by Andy Weir, who also wrote The Martian which led to the beloved Matt Damon film from the same new film genre I just created, science teacher Ryland Grace, played by Ryan Gosling, wakes up on a spaceship light years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. As his memory returns, he begins to uncover his mission: solve the riddle of the mysterious substance causing the sun to die out. He must call on his scientific knowledge and unorthodox ideas to save everything on Earth from extinction… but an unexpected friendship means he may not have to do it alone. This is the big screen film I’m most excited about this month… huzzah!
