DISCLOSURE DAY

Rating: CTC
Director: Steven Spielberg
Cast: Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo
Genre: Thriller, sci-fi
Opens: JUN 11
Steven Spielberg is back with an original story that he also directs. A sci-fi thriller, starring Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor and Colin Firth – that alone has me wanting to see it. The trailer has to be seen, as it’s barely able to be described. The premise is “If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you? This summer, the truth belongs to seven billion people.”
We are all so tired of sequels and franchise films, but 2026 we are seeing the return of stand alone interesting thought provoking films – huzzah.
THE DEATH OF ROBIN HOOD

Rating: CTC
Director: Michael Sarnoski
Cast: Hugh Jackman, Jodie Comer, Bill Skarsgård, Murray Bartlett, Noah Jupe, Faith Delaney
Genre: Thriller, drama
Opens: JUN 18
Hugh Jackman in the complete opposite of his usual heart throb kinda role – instead an old, weary, grimey Robin Hood. Grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder, Robin Hood finds himself gravely injured after a battle he thought would be his last. In the hands of a mysterious woman, he is offered a chance at salvation. This looks to be a really interesting take on the simplified one dimensional Robin Hood folklore – and I can’t wait to see grunge Hugh and more of Jodie Comer in any film.
POWER BALLAD

Rating: M (Coarse language)
Duration: 98 mins
Director: John Carney
Cast: Paul Rudd, Nick Jonas, Havana Rose Liu, Jack Reynor
Genre: Comedy, music
Opens: MAY 28
Do you remember the wonderful Irish music film Once? A beloved film 20 years ago that was an Indie hit. Well, John Carney is back with a new, much bigger film, with music still at its core. After a chance meeting, wedding band front man Rick (Paul Rudd) drunkenly jams with former boy-band sensation Danny (Nick Jonas). Six months later, Rick is astounded to discover their impromptu song has skyrocketed to global fame, yet Danny receives all the glory. As Danny’s solo career takes flight, Rick fights for recognition. However, in his relentless pursuit of fame, fortune, and the rockstar life he’s dreamed of having, Rick risks losing a grip on his real fortune—his wife, daughter, and cherished friends back home.
Power Ballad looks like a feel-good story about music, friendship, and the price of ambition.
THE CHRISTOPHERS

Rating: CTC
Duration: 100 mins
Director: Steven Soderbergh
Cast: Michaela Coel, Ian McKellen, Jessica Gunning
Genre: Comedy, drama
Opens: JUN 04
This looks wickedly fun and folks I trust who have seen it tell me it’s one of the year’s best – Soderbergh in fine form. Having all but given up her own art practice, thirtysomething Lori divides her time between freelance art restoration and working the window of a food truck. Her fortunes promise to change, however, when she’s approached by the estranged heirs of renowned painter Julian Sklar with a tantalizing proposition: Lori is to apprehend a series of long-abandoned paintings from Sklar’s London home, complete the paintings using her masterful imitation skills, and receive a third of the profits from the sale of the paintings following the old man’s imminent death. Lori accepts the gig, infiltrating Sklar’s home under the pretence of becoming his new assistant, but the ruse quickly goes awry in a series of titillating twists and shifting allegiances.
