    ROTARY ALTONA JUMPS TO CHALLENGE

    Date:

    By Craig Ryder

A few weeks ago we were asked by Michelle Findlay, Coordinator Active Community Support, Hobsons Bay City Council if we could assist in providing some single use sports drinks and water for the nurses and staff at St George Nursing home.

The staff need to wear full PPE all day and with reduction in staff and long hours, the drinks were certainly welcomed.

Rotary Altona stepped up via our community network and received free cartons from Kooringal Golf Club, IGA Altona, Altona Bowling Club, Altona Sports Centre, and Rotary Yarraville. So far we have dropped off about 25 cartons of mixed drinks for them.

On the back of this and via our Facebook posts, we have received some generous offers of cash from $20 from single families up to $250 from Shawqi at Sweeney Real Estate in Altona. Giving us $340 that we are reinvesting into the IGA Pier St owner Hitesh, manager Jhae, to purchase another 30-40 cartons of mixed drinks.

If you would like to attend a Rotary Zoom meeting or enquire about joining you can do so on their web site www.rotaryaltona.org

Our content is a labour of love, crafted by dedicated volunteers who are passionate about the west. We encourage submissions from our community, particularly stories about your own experiences, family history, local issues, your suburb, community events, local history, human interest stories, food, the arts, and environmental matters. Below are articles created by community contributors. You can find their names in the bylines.

    Did you know?

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.

If you loved reading this article please consider donating to the Westsider. Support from you gives local writers an outlet and ensures an independent voice can be found in the west.
