MEET WILMA, AUSTRALIA’S NEWLY CROWNED SAUSAGE KING QUEEN

    Date:

Forget about the best vanilla slice, and who cares about the tastiest meat pie, because it’s about the sausage. And here in the western suburbs we have the best. Officially!

As I visited my local butcher Beulah Meats in Sunshine I was fortunate enough to see the team unbox their 1st place trophy in the 2023 Sausage King competition.

That’s right, the best snags can be found right here in the west!

Owner Wilma Palor, is a rare gem in the meat industry, not just for her skill with the clever and flavours, but she is one of the few female butchers in the business. Hailing from the Philippines, Wilma took over this store in 2015 and has quickly become a hit with her marinated pork skewers and tasty chops. But it’s her ingenious use of Filipino flavours in her award winning sweet; sweet chilli and herb and garlic sausages, that have been an absolute hit with locals, and the Australian Meat Industry Council. The praise is no fluke. The walls and counter of the store are adorned with awards as Wilma and her team have constantly been sweeping the annual Sausage King competition and other BBQ competitions in the state.

But it’s not just a place for the best sausages in Victoria; it’s also the personal touch that keeps customers coming back for more. The friendly staff create an atmosphere that’s inviting and take immense pride in the quality and freshness of their products. Next time you are in the area drop in say hello to Wilma and try the award winning sausages. They will make you the king or queen of any BBQ.

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.
