Are you a member of a political party, political group, or community advocacy group? (eg; Labor, Liberal, Greens, Socialist, My Place, Angry Victorians, Better West, environment groups, etc)

No, but I am a United Workers Union Member.

What is the most important issue facing your electorate?

As per going around the ward in the last few weeks, the most evident issues with the public are cost of living, lack of infrastructure and crime and the dangers of toxic chemicals factories.

Should/how can Council support local businesses?

As someone who has supported small businesses in the past, I suggest that the council can further support small businesses in the municipality by giving grants, but also advertising businesses to residence to promote them for free and be free of red tape so business can grow and succeed.

Should/how can Council support local creatives and industries?

I would like to see support not only businesses but local artist as well as is it’s quite important for our new generation. Talents should be promoted, and also given the resources to grow and prosper, such as a resource centre.

Should/how can Council help alleviate the impact of climate extremes on local communities and ecosystems?

I have been advocating and campaigning for council rate cuts. There is a vision that punishing the rich is acceptable by increasing rates and taxes, but as a landlord myself, I know that landlords pass on that rise of expense to tenants therefore they should be rate Cuts to be fair for all.

In addition, I believe that domestic animal registration should be scrapped to also ease the burden and ease cost-of-living pressures. I can’t understand why pet lovers are being punished for having beautiful pets.

In addition, we also require more public housing as times are really tough currently and homelessness that seems to be at an all time high.

What should Council stop spending money on?

Stop increasing the Mayor’s renumeration. As one of my policies, I promise that if I get in as Mayor, I will donate half my wages to charities within the municipality.

Should the public be allowed to ask live, unscripted questions of councillors during council meetings?

    Absolutely. Yes! It’s a democracy isn’t it?

Can you please provide a short personal statement detailing what your priorities are if elected, and what your vision for your electorate looks like.

Brimbank has always been neglected and always get the raw end of the bargain, where we miss out on funding and major capital projects. For example Robinsons Road 100 metres away on the same road, Wyndham has 3 to 5 lanes where is Brimbank only has a single lane without proper street, lighting and without bike lanes.

The Police station in Caroline Springs still only opens to the public from 9 am to 5 pm which is a security risk for us residents and started a petition to make his police station 24 hours as crime is rising in Brimbank.

Also an issue is the neglect of public transport. There is only one bus route in the whole suburb of Derrimut, which at times can be intervals of up to an hour and bus stop in excess of a kilometre walk from residences.

Some bus services finish up at 6pm, which is an absolute disgrace. We must change from these 1970’s ancient infrastructure and lack of service.

On your behalf we have asked every candidate who put their hand up to stand in Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong and Wyndham the same set of questions that were formulated with the feedback of the Westsider readers.

Our thanks goes to first year RMIT Journalism students, who helped contact candidates as part of their final assessment in COMM2835, Journalism: Reporting and Writing.

A big shout out to Dr Josie Vine, a Westsider regular, who coordinated the project and Dr Sharon Smith who so graciously lent us her students and devised the activity as part of their assessment.
