Are you a member of a political party, political group, or community advocacy group? (eg; Labor, Liberal, Greens, Socialist, My Place, Angry Victorians, Better West, environment groups, etc)

    No

What is the most important issue facing your electorate?

Infrastructure and Transport: The area’s rapid growth has increased pressure on existing infrastructure, making this a top concern for many residents. I’ll advocate for better traffic management, expanded public transportation options, and safer pedestrian and cycling pathways.

Should/how can Council support local businesses?

The council should support local businesses by reducing red tape, offering incentives, and creating business hubs. Providing digital transformation workshops, organising networking events, and promoting “shop local” campaigns can boost economic growth. Enhancing infrastructure and accessibility and creating long-term strategies will foster a thriving local business ecosystem.

Should/how can Council support local creatives and industries?

The council can support local creatives by offering grants, hosting public art exhibitions, and creating co-working spaces. Collaborating with creative industries for community projects, promoting local talent through events, and fostering partnerships with businesses can enhance cultural vibrancy, boost tourism, and create economic opportunities for the creative sector.

Should/how can Council help alleviate the impact of climate extremes on local communities and ecosystems?

The council can mitigate climate extremes by promoting green building, investing in sustainable infrastructure, and expanding green spaces. Encouraging renewable energy, managing flood risks, and educating the community on eco-friendly practices can build resilience. Partnering with local environmental groups ensures long-term sustainability for both communities and ecosystems.

Should/how can Council help alleviate cost of living and homelessness?

The council can alleviate the cost of living and homelessness by advocating for affordable housing, providing emergency shelter services, and supporting rent assistance programs. Partnering with local organisations, promoting job creation, and offering community support services, such as food banks and mental health resources, can help vulnerable populations regain stability.

What should Council stop spending money on?

The council should consider cutting spending on unnecessary or low-impact projects, such as excessive bureaucracy, underutilised facilities, or non-essential infrastructure upgrades. Reducing expenditures on overly expensive events, consultant fees without clear benefits, or outdated programs can free up resources for more critical areas like community services, housing, and sustainability projects.

Should the public be allowed to ask live, unscripted questions of councillors during council meetings?

     Yes

Can you please provide a short personal statement detailing what your priorities are if elected, and what your vision for your electorate looks like.

My name is Inshu Misra, and as a local mum, I am passionate about making our community a better place for families like mine. I live here with my young child and our energetic 5-year-old husky. I believe in creating a neighbourhood where everyone—children, pets, and families—can thrive. As a Technical Architect, Behaviour Analyst, and CEO of a purpose-led organisation, I’ve dedicated my career to helping skilled migrants achieve their dream roles in Australia. I also lead a mum’s meetup group, supporting women through career transformations and empowering them to contribute to their families and our society. I understand the challenges of balancing family life with career goals, and I’m committed to building a community where everyone has the opportunity to grow and succeed. If elected, I will create safe, family-friendly spaces and support initiatives that help locals—especially women and migrants—develop their careers. Together, we can build a future full of opportunities and success. Your vote will allow me to put my experience and passion for people into action. Let’s work together to create a stronger, more inclusive community.

On your behalf we have asked every candidate who put their hand up to stand in Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong and Wyndham the same set of questions that were formulated with the feedback of the Westsider readers.

Our thanks goes to first year RMIT Journalism students, who helped contact candidates as part of their final assessment in COMM2835, Journalism: Reporting and Writing.

A big shout out to Dr Josie Vine, a Westsider regular, who coordinated the project and Dr Sharon Smith who so graciously lent us her students and devised the activity as part of their assessment.
