    INNER WEST COMMUNITY BIKE HUB

    Date:

Since kicking off in September 2019, the Bike Hub has donated an incredible 280 recycled bikes back to those in need in the inner west community. That’s an average of 10 bikes a week!

The bikes are part of a donate and recycle program developed by Footscray Bike Shed, where donated bikes are repaired by a dedicated group of volunteers every Saturday at the Bike Hub. The volunteers have been overwhelmed with donations so the program has now extended to Monday evenings.

In recent weeks, the Bike Hub has partnered with Brimbank Council’s Resource Recovery Centre which receives unwanted goods for recycling, including bikes, and already 41 bikes have been received.

Our content is a labour of love, crafted by dedicated volunteers who are passionate about the west. We encourage submissions from our community, particularly stories about your own experiences, family history, local issues, your suburb, community events, local history, human interest stories, food, the arts, and environmental matters. Below are articles created by community contributors. You can find their names in the bylines.

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.

If you loved reading this article please consider donating to the Westsider. Support from you gives local writers an outlet and ensures an independent voice can be found in the west.
