EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE ACCESS TO ARTISTIC AND CREATIVE ACTIVITIES, INCLUDING PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

    Date:

The arts belong to everyone and Footscray Community Arts is making sure that happens in the western suburbs. But they need your help!

As an independent charity, and one of the only arts organisations nationally to register as a NDIS Provider, accessible transport is vital to keep all artists connected.

Their Community Van is supporting d/Deaf and Disabled artists to visit galleries, connect with the arts industry and meet other artists in Melbourne’s thriving creative communities.

This includes facilitating opportunities to attend industry workshops, talks, networking, mentoring, and leadership events.

However, the van is over 20 years old, inaccessible, difficult to drive and unreliable, so Footscray Community Arts needs your help to buy a new van.

Even better, if you donate today your impact will be doubled: with every dollar up to $50,000 being matched by Creative Partnerships Plus1 support.

If you think that the arts belongs to everybody, and can spare a dime or two, please help Footscray Community Arts help make the arts more inclusive.

Our content is a labour of love, crafted by dedicated volunteers who are passionate about the west. We encourage submissions from our community, particularly stories about your own experiences, family history, local issues, your suburb, community events, local history, human interest stories, food, the arts, and environmental matters. Below are articles created by community contributors. You can find their names in the bylines.

    Did you know?

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.

If you loved reading this article please consider donating to the Westsider. Support from you gives local writers an outlet and ensures an independent voice can be found in the west.

If you're a business or community group, consider advertising in print or online, or becoming a community partner.
