    DAVID PORTEUS IS HERE

    Date:

I’m Here – Selfscapes of Solitude is a showcase of Kingsville photographer and regular Westsider contributor David Porteus’s finest work.

Through a combination of photographic and digital collages, David’s work takes its solitary subjects through the vast and whimsical landscapes of the Australian road trip and explores the experiences of solitude.

The Trocadero Artspace in Footscray will host this haunting photographic exhibition from March the 18th, and visitors can expect to view visual ‘songs’ or poems celebrating solitude.

I was inspired by stories of others travelling in solitude, something which I have always yearned to do. The people in the works had all known solitude, so I drew on their experiences in the shoots, to create giant postcards or self-scapes.

Opening: Saturday 21st March Trocadero Gallery, Footscray 4-6 pm

Exhibition dates: 18th March to 2nd April, Wed to Sat 12-5pm

Our content is a labour of love, crafted by dedicated volunteers who are passionate about the west. We encourage submissions from our community, particularly stories about your own experiences, family history, local issues, your suburb, community events, local history, human interest stories, food, the arts, and environmental matters. It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.

If you loved reading this article please consider donating to the Westsider. Support from you gives local writers an outlet and ensures an independent voice can be found in the west.
