Newport Rams Heritage Day – Saturday 10 February

It’s all hands on deck at Newport Rams Baseball Club with preparations underway for its annual Heritage Day to be held on Saturday 10 February

According to club President Paul Walshe, Heritage Day not only celebrates the club’s rich history, it also provides an opportunity to renew the club’s commitment to the community, and to honour those who have worked tirelessly over the years to ensure the club remains a hub of not just community sporting excellence, but inclusivity as well.

Paul said “Rams Heritage Day is one our biggest annual events and this year we will host six games across our Senior and Women’s programs. We are very excited to have our women’s team playing back to back with our senior (mens) team on the same field, which will be a first for us.
It is testament of how far our women’s program has come in a short time, as well as our priority of inclusivity at the Rams.” Players will don replicas of one of the club’s original uniforms as a nod to the club’s heritage.

As the Newport Rams approaches its centenary (2028), the future is looking bright. The club’s robust junior program continues to grow in both size and quality, and last month four young Rams represented Victoria in the U16 and U18 National championships in Sydney. The success of these players (Will Hardy, Andy Land, Sam Land & Ben Howard) has also bolstered the club’s senior stocks too, with 2024 seeing the club return to the top division of Victorian baseball, after winning five premierships last season across their senior programs. Paul said “The club is able to thrive through the strong support of many stakeholders, including Hobsons Bay City Council, Vic Sport (State Govt) and a range of local sponsors, all of whom will be acknowledged on the day.”

Rams Heritage Day will see games kick off from 10.30 am with the BBQ and canteen in full swing all day. At 3:30pm there will be a ceremony to acknowledge the club’s heritage and Life Membership Medals will be presented to the club’s latest inductees. There is lots going on for the kids who are encouraged to lace up their runners for the Rams inaugural Diamond Dash to be held around 4:00pm.

Newport Rams Baseball club wishes to thank the following key Sponsors: Eureka Garage and Sheds, Flotek, Boot2Suits, Team Style, DG Group, Seddon Community Bank, and B2 Architecture.

Be sure and get down to KC White Reserve in Park Cres, Williamstown North on Saturday 10 February for what promises to be a great day for the Rams and a great day for the community. Good Luck Rams.
