    Brigit Ingram exhibition

    Date:

Throughout August and September, our branch is exhibiting the artwork of local resident, Brigit Ingram.

Brigit is a twenty-one year old artist currently studying a Bachelor of Fine Arts at RMIT, while also making art from her home in Yarraville. Her body of work is made up of a variety of print media and oil paintings which more or less, sums up her disparate art practice. Reflected in these works are a range of architectural forms and follies which she has taken inspiration from. Some works are inspired by travels and others from wandering around Melbourne.

Her artistic practice involves a wide range of mediums and processes. She often likes to let the material she is working with inform what she is going to create or what subject/themes she’d like to explore.

“I am inspired by the idea of not knowing what will come out of my work. I’m not just referring to the finished result of a single piece, but what will come next. What would I do differently? What would I do the same? What material should I use now? Completing something will inform what I will create next, and I find that inspiring. Art is a series of decision making and I like the concept of endless possibilities, which rather than finding daunting, motivates me.”

In terms of subject matter and this body of work, Brigit says she is simply inspired by ‘the everyday’ or the ‘mundane’. Most of the architecture she depicts in her exhibition isn’t overly elaborate.

Visit the branch Monday to Friday 9.30am to 4.00pm or see more of Brigit’s work @realm.bb

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.
