ART. EAT. FUN – ARE YOU READY TO SPEND ONE NIGHT IN FOOTSCRAY?

    Date:

The local arts community is taking over the streets, galleries, bars and hidden in-between spaces of central Footscray for a third year of One Night in Footscray.

Meet under the waning crescent moon on Friday the 22nd of November, from 5pm till late, and discover a diverse range of exhibitions, food, live music, performance and interactive art installations in this free and accessible program that has something for people of all ages and backgrounds.

Designed as a self-guided twilight journey through central Footscray, visitors will be able to view and engage in a wide variety of high-quality art experiences across different mediums and unexpected locations – all on ONE night.

Art galleries, including Trocadero Art Space, Five Walls and VU at MetroWest, and the Footscray Library will stay open after dark, with Artlife and Speak Percussion performances, art exhibitions featuring work from Victoria University students and artists from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds, and a (definitely not pointless) palm reading session.

Find an installation of pompom flowers in Maddern Square that can be plucked and taken home, comfortable arm chairs located in a range of cozy nooks where you can fill a book with Footscray tales, and a Latinx block party at Counterweight Records.

If you’re starting at the Footscray Train Station, you’ll be welcomed by live music from the VU Music Agency, an L2R hip-hop dance performance, and a game of Trugo. Footscray icons Snuff Puppets will be roaming the streets, along with the Street Skeeters, and dabble in some science experiments at Bar Josephine. These are just some of the experiences you can expect at One Night in Footscray!

With activities spanning from 5pm until late, don’t miss a thing with take-away food specials being offered by local eateries.

And if you’re already feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the options and you’re unsure of where to start, there will be free guided tours from Footscray Train Station, leaving at 6.30pm and 7.30pm.

One Night in Footscray is an initiative of Footscray University Town – a partnership between Maribyrnong City Council and Victoria University. In 2019 One Night in Footscray will take place during the Due West Arts Festival, a ten-day multi arts local and international festival. Both One Night in Footscray and Due West are proud to support the diverse creative voices of Melbourne’s west.
