Local Hero: Anyieth Ngueny

Date:

Anyieth Ngueny is a dedicated senior youth worker with Junubi Wyndham where she has worked for the last six and a half years.

Junubi Wyndham is a community-led, culturally informed service that uses youth development, family support, education, employment, sport and community leadership to strengthen the wellbeing, opportunities and sense of belonging of South Sudanese young people and families in Wyndham.

The model is particularly important because bicultural workers bring both professional skills and cultural knowledge, allowing them to build trust with young people and families and act as a bridge between community members, schools, government and mainstream services.

Anyieth has a passion for helping others. She has qualifications in community services and is fluent in three languages. Her training and multilingualism allows her to effectively connect with clients and families and provide tailored support.

Her work covers several important areas including, mentoring and youth outreach, homework and education support, school holiday programs, support for young people experiencing barriers to education, employment or community participation.

Anyieth’s work also supports whole families because positive youth outcomes cannot be separated from their family circumstances. This includes leading a women’s group that creates opportunities for connection, leadership, wellbeing and peer support as well as financial literacy, employment and job seeking, parenting, mental health and navigating mainstream services and referrals.

Anyieth works with a wonderful team of Junubi Wyndham colleagues who together help ensure South Sudanese young people and families get the support they need to thrive.
