    Editor’s note

    Date:

OK Westies … it’s been a tough year but this is the season to take a breath, relax, and enjoy some of the goodness that surrounds us here on the ‘best side of the bridge’.

So if you’re looking for some things to do you don’t need to go any further than The Westsider.

If you’re feeling peckish head to the plethora of restaurant reviews on our website for some of the best eating experiences on offer in Melbourne. Food writers Deborah Ong and Gary Lee review the West’s hidden gems offering fascinating cultural insights that are too often missing from reviews in other publications.

For the arty inclined, read about some local highlights on our Arts Events page. Of course we have our very own What’s On Westside events calendar and there’s also Western Melbourne Tourism’s Love Westside for more inspiration.

But if nature is your jam there are plenty of other offerings. This month we feature a story about Werribee’s new cliff walk which has been compared by some to Kakadu! Or you can explore the recently completed Bay Trail connecting the Hobsons Bay Trail with the Wyndham Bay Trail. Also nearby are Newport Lakes, Point Cook Coastal Park, Werribee River Trail, and Serendip Sanctuary a little further west in Lara.

If you prefer to lay low you can bury yourself in some books. Head to our literature page for some great recommended reading including many local authors.

And for those who like a puzzle we’ve got the best crossword in the West on offer. Sharp eyed readers would have noticed that last month we published an impossible crossword, just to check if anyone would notice (actually that’s a lie, we made a boo boo and printed a botched crossword). Thankfully, our wonderful crossword compiler Eliesha Rae has forgiven us and has created a super-dooper summer crossword special, chock-a-block with Westie references. What a gem she is!

I guess all I’m saying is stay local! The best of everything you could possibly need in life is right here in the West. So get out there and explore like a true adventurer.

    Did you know?

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.

If you loved reading this article please consider donating to the Westsider. Support from you gives local writers an outlet and ensures an independent voice can be found in the west.
