    5KMS – “WHERE CAN I GO?”

    Date:

It’s probably the most difficult part of the Melbourne lockdown situation – the rules restricting us from straying beyond 5kms of our home. Nature-lovers are particularly hard hit, with many of us unable to visit the beach, bush or other outdoor favourites in the current climate.

But there is still some nature to be enjoyed in the inner-west, depending on your exact address, and we’ve listed some here that might just fit inside your 5km limit:

    • Altona – Altona Coastal Park, Cherry Lake, Paisley Challis Wetlands
    • Altona North – Kororoit Creek Nature Reserve
    • Braybrook – Cranwell park
    • Footscray – Maribyrnong River Trail and Reserve, Newell’s Paddock Wetlands Reserve
    • Maribyrnong – Pipemakers Park,Frog’s Hollow Wetlands
    • Newport – Newport Lakes Reserve
    • Sunshine West – Kororoit Creek Trail
    • Williamstown – Sandy Point Nature Reserve and Breakwater, Williamstown Botanic Gardens
    • Yarraville – Stony Creek Reserve, Cruickshank Park, Yarraville Gardens

Our content is a labour of love, crafted by dedicated volunteers who are passionate about the west. We encourage submissions from our community, particularly stories about your own experiences, family history, local issues, your suburb, community events, local history, human interest stories, food, the arts, and environmental matters. Below are articles created by community contributors. You can find their names in the bylines.

    Did you know?

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.

If you loved reading this article please consider donating to the Westsider. Support from you gives local writers an outlet and ensures an independent voice can be found in the west.

If you're a business or community group, consider advertising in print or online, or becoming a community partner.
