    YCC CELEBRATING YOUNG VICTORIANS

    Date:

Victorian Youth Week 2021 is a state-wide celebration of the talents, achievements and contributions of young people. Youth Week is an opportunity for young people to express their ideas and views and act on issues that affect their lives through a number of activities and events running between 26 June until the end of July around Victoria.

In 2018, the Yarraville Community Centre launched their YCC Youth Space that hosts a range of programs and events to address the identified needs of young people within the Maribyrnong community.

“The YCC Youth Space aims to build strength and resilience and gives young people the opportunity to make connections with their peers and their community as well as workshop the issues that are important to them by giving them a voice that will be heard.” Bettina Twyman, Reconnect & Youth Coordinator.

To celebrate Youth Week, the YCC Youth Space will be hosting a number of free events inclusive to all young people including a family night on Friday 9 July to showcase and share their skills, with an important adult in their lives. The regular free SWITCH events run by youth leaders will also be running through July for 12 – 17-year-olds. Theses nights aim to build wellbeing, through healthy gaming practices, building confidence, friendships as well as a healthy mind and body.

The events are held in Yarraville and Footscray and are inclusive and accessible for all young people. To find out more, or to attend our events please visit www.ycc.net.au/ycc-youth

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.
