    WESTSIDER PROFILES – VITO AGOSTA

    Date:

    By Sean Smith

The inimitable Vito Agosta is the resident kitchen celebrity and proud Italian at Iramoo Community Centre in Wyndham Vale. A generous and active member of the community, at 82 years of age (and only getting younger), Vito volunteers his time to run The Men’s Cooking Group on Thursdays between 9:30 and 1:00.

The group cook, garden and grow friendships together in a supportive and cheerful environment. Led by Vito, a fresh meal is prepared and then lunch is served. Vito makes pasta and pizza dough from scratch and donates his own exquisite homemade tomato sauce. A talented chef and understanding teacher, Vito’s presence lifts the spirits of  everyone around him.

Our content is a labour of love, crafted by dedicated volunteers who are passionate about the west. We encourage submissions from our community, particularly stories about your own experiences, family history, local issues, your suburb, community events, local history, human interest stories, food, the arts, and environmental matters. Below are articles created by community contributors. You can find their names in the bylines.

    Did you know?

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.

If you loved reading this article please consider donating to the Westsider. Support from you gives local writers an outlet and ensures an independent voice can be found in the west.
