By Konker Malual

Hello! Konker Malual here, the Director of T.R.O.U, otherwise known as The Rest of Us. You may have read about us in previous editions of The Westsider. We are a non-profit organisation which curates free creative workshops in various mediums for young individuals in disadvantaged communities.

We’re excited to announce the launch of the TROU Market, popping up in the heart of Footscray on Saturday, 24th May!

This new indoor market celebrates culture, creativity, and community with a curated mix of stalls featuring vintage gems, handmade pieces, art, fashion, food and homegrown brands from diverse and emerging creatives.

A fun day out for all ages, the event will also feature henna art, face painting, and live music to keep the good vibes flowing. Bring your friends, your fam, or just your curiosity — there’ll be something for everyone.

Our content is a labour of love, crafted by dedicated volunteers who are passionate about the west. We encourage submissions from our community, particularly stories about your own experiences, family history, local issues, your suburb, community events, local history, human interest stories, food, the arts, and environmental matters. Below are articles created by community contributors. You can find their names in the bylines.

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.

If you loved reading this article please consider donating to the Westsider. Support from you gives local writers an outlet and ensures an independent voice can be found in the west.
