For the fourth year running, a group of Victoria University undergraduate engineers were given the special opportunity to gain on the job experience with Transurban in Melbourne’s inner west.
The nine students, who joined Transurban in January have experienced a rare behind-the- scenes look at how Transurban builds major projects and operates its roads.
Practical experience on some of Australia’s most exciting civil projects, paired with the chance to learn from Transurban mentors, aims to create a pipeline of highly skilled and enthusiastic engineers.
For the first time since Transurban and Victoria University teamed up to develop the next generation of engineers, this year students had the chance to join Transurban’s Asset Integration team. The partnership between Transurban and Victoria University has been so successful that several interns have remained with Transurban in both full time and part time graduate positions.

The nerves of every westie have been tested severely over the last few months with what seems to be an endless ordeal of roadworks.
Those frustrations will continue throughout April with more major road closures planned.

Roads closures: Wurundjeri Way will be closed nightly from 31 March and throughout April with detours in place while we build the Wurundjeri Way extension, creating better connections across our city. It will also be reduced to a single lane in both directions until late October, with an extra four minutes in travel time expected. Plan ahead and allow extra time.
Footscray Road outbound carriageway between Dock Link Road and Appleton Dock Road will be closed 24/7 from 8pm Wednesday 29 March until late May.
Pedestrian and cycling: The pedestrian and cycling path between Dock Link Road and Appleton Dock Road will also be closed from 18 April to 5 May. Detours and signs will be in place, so plan in advance.
Changes to bus services: From Thursday 30 March to late May 2023 there will be changes to bus services between the West and the city due to the Footscray Road westbound closure and lane closures on Wurundjeri Way.
Route 220 buses travelling from the city will divert using Dynon Road and will not service stops along Footscray Rd, Dudley and A/Beckett streets.
Routes 216, 232, 234, 235, 236 and 237 will also have service changes in place between 7am–7pm each day.
