THE NEWSSTAND PROJECT – WILLIAMSTOWN LIBRARY REVEAL!

    Date:

Williamstown Library was recently the recipient of another of The Westsider’s news stands – part of the ongoing inner-west Newsstand Art Project.

Jodie & Andrew of Hobsons Bay Libraries gratefully accepted the stand and helped fill it with a ceremonial bundle of Westsider newspapers.

Artist Eva Klusacek was also present at the Friday afternoon hand over:

“I was excited to see such a great reception of the newsstand. I’ve really enjoyed working on it.”

Eva spoke about her inspiration for the maritime theme, reproduced in colourful enamel paints.

“We are relatively close to the shore, I wanted to bring the biodiversity of the underwater world and birdlife of Williamstown to life. I have had multiple snorkelling adventures around Williamstown – the underwater world is amazing.”

Eva’s work now proudly sits in the busy rear carpark entrance, and will be full of Westsiders. Head down to 104 Ferguson St, Williamstown and check it out, and grab the latest edition of the paper.

Our content is a labour of love, crafted by dedicated volunteers who are passionate about the west. We encourage submissions from our community, particularly stories about your own experiences, family history, local issues, your suburb, community events, local history, human interest stories, food, the arts, and environmental matters. Below are articles created by community contributors. You can find their names in the bylines.

    Did you know?

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.

If you loved reading this article please consider donating to the Westsider. Support from you gives local writers an outlet and ensures an independent voice can be found in the west.
