SLOW FOOD WESTSIDE FARMERS’ MARKET RELAUNCH WEST FOOTSCRAY

    Date:

Slow Food Westside Farmers’ Market capping off West Footscray as an eclectic foodie destination.

Come and shop with the friendliest stallholders who will serve you with a smile and provide you and your family with the best of Victorian produce.

The Slow Food Melbourne (SFM) farmers’ market, affectionately known as SloFo WeFo by locals, will be joining foodie neighbours including Harley and Rose, Zymurgy, Post Industrial Design, Brother Nancy, Aangan and more. It marks its move from the industrial end of Tottenham to the more vibrant community hub in Barrett Reserve, Essex St in the heart of West Footscray.

Re-launching on Saturday 12 March 2022, expect a fun day out for the family with bocce lessons and free ice cream for the kids between 10am-11am. SFM will host a VIP breakfast for local bloggers and influencers, councillors and other partner organisations. Market organisers hope to spread the word that as part of the local WeFo scene people should put the date in their diaries as a “must do” regular event.

“SloFo WeFo originally launched on Sunshine Road during the peak of harsh Covid restrictions in 2020. At the time, the focus was to provide a Covid safe essential service while minimising social interaction. We are now ready to bring our rich history, food and stall holders to the hub of West Footscray where we can better engage with the local community.” says Slow Food Melbourne President, Alison Peake.

“West Footscray has established a strong reputation for its eclectic and diverse community and the timing is right for Slow Food Melbourne to be a more integral part of this. Locals can take the kids for a play at the local park, shop at the farmers’ market, watch a game of footy or cricket and then visit the great shops and restaurants in the precinct.”

A feature of the day will be a free raffle with prizes from local WeFo & Footscray traders so shoppers can expect to be ‘In It To Win It’ for vouchers for local bars, shops and restaurants.

Slow Food Melbourne cares about where food comes from and the hard-working folk who produce it, supporting a slower, richer pace of living connected to culture and history through the living lens of food.

Locals will be spoilt with the best local Victorian produce with a focus on producers and artisan makers who are local or from the west of the state and delivering with the lowest of food miles. Takeaway food and ready to eat options will also be available.

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.

If you loved reading this article please consider donating to the Westsider. Support from you gives local writers an outlet and ensures an independent voice can be found in the west.
