Reinvention and inspiration

Date:

KR is a visual artist living and working in Melbourne’s West. She made a career change at the age of 45, when she quit a corporate job to study Visual Art at Victoria University in 2010. Since then, she has immersed herself in the Melbourne art world, first as a student and then as a practising artist.

Her work ranges from pastel drawings, water colour, acrylic painting, abstract expressionism, to geometric abstract paintings, text-based works and mixed media and printmaking, often embellished with glitter.

“For most people, art is a luxury, but for me it is a necessity. My artwork is my therapy and has changed my life for the better, in every way, apart from financially,” said KR. “Going to art school as a mature age student was a revelation and the best years of my life, so far.

I’m inspired by street art, stencils and graffiti, random found objects, the natural environment, landscapes, nature, flowers and clouds. I’ve experimented with bright and fluorescent colours, and I’m fascinated by the science of colour and pigments and their emotional effects and the subconscious and therapeutic efforts on human moods and psychology.”

KR’s work will be on display at the Community Bank Seddon from the 3rd October – 30th November.

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.
