    Neighbourhood House Week

    Date:

    By Yarraville Community Centre

Victorian Neighbourhood House Week is a vibrant annual celebration of bringing together local communities to engage in various activities hosted by community houses across the state. The week celebrates the important role that neighbourhood houses play in fostering connections and supporting individuals across all walks of life. This year’s theme for Neighbourhood House Week was; Stronger Together. When people come together, they can achieve great things. These annual celebrations provide a great opportunity for community members to learn about the valuable resources available to them.

As a community house, YCC has played an important role in the inner west for almost 50 years, fostering resilience and growth. From health and wellness classes to educational courses and creative workshops, the centre is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all residents. The centre’s services extend to food relief, volunteering as well as vocational training, and computer and literacy programs.

This year Yarraville Community Centre offered free Autumn taster classes to mark the occasion, along with a BBQ for lunch. The local community was invited to explore a Pilates and Yoga session designed to promote physical health and mindfulness, along with a pastel art workshop as well as an introductory class on Artificial Intelligence (AI). These free taster classes offered residents a chance to try new activities, learn new skills, as well further social connection in a supportive environment. Yarraville Community Centre would like to thank all residents, community members and City of Maribyrnong council members for attending and participating in this year’s activities and celebrations.
