Previously known as ‘Kara’s Flowers’, the band have released their first studio album under their now recognised name ‘Maroon 5’. The 5 piece band have made sure to make a shift in sound sonically, more pop aesthetics and the writing and vocal performances from Adam Levine has vastly improved. Their first album made shockwaves across the charts earning themselves seven Billboard Top 100 spots, including in Australia.
Songs About Jane is a record crudely filled with tragic love songs and anthems, with the most tragic coming in the form of She Will Be Loved. Whilst it’s 4th in the tracklist, it’s slow tempo with whimsical string sections, basking underneath Levine’s raspy and charming falsetto. A shift comes later in the record with the hopeful sounding ‘Sunday Morning’, chirpy drum kicks and an overall fun track from the band with a funky little brass section towards the end of the track to break it up. Songs About Jane is a mix of tricks, there are some absolute classics that get played in rotation even today, but even the tracks that get muddled up in the middle are a treat when you’re on a proper re-listen. If you’re up for some chill and fun love songs to listen to on a sunny drive, this is the one for you.

PLIÉ — Full Circle Boys

Full Circle Boys is an American boy-band composed of members Jagger Moon, James Herron, Sean Garrity, Dossan Bell, and Oliver Hincy. Their second EP PLIÉ, whilst short in length, shows a lot of potential and shining a bright light in the landscape for new western pop boy-bands that we haven’t seen since Big Time Rush and One Direction. Where FCB visually shine over their contemporaries is their background in dance, where a majority of the group grew up together or went to the same dance academy, so already there is that natural chemistry in the group that some other pop acts are missing, especially those who were creating on a talent show. The aforementioned chemistry shows with the group’s harmonies coming through especially on songs like FREE99 and YOU SHOULD BE MINE, the latter apparently was written by the whole group and you can really tell with the performance and energy of the song shining above the rest. The boys throughout the record provide youthful but also moody edge to them that provides more depth. Short album, good listening experience. Very excited to hear what the Full Circle Boys release in the future and what they can bring to the table to the pop landscape.
