Missionpoint Yarraville: Such a pleasant surprise!

    Date:

Missionpoint Op Shop is an amazing little treasure trove on Somerville Road in Yarraville. It’s been running for over 20 years and is managed by the Pilgrim Uniting Church and an amazing bunch of volunteers.

The front of the store looks pretty quaint and I was initially worried there wouldn’t be many items, but after entering I discovered the store was never ending! There is room after room, with each dedicated to a different collection.

My favourite room of course is the women’s clothes! From beautiful shoes to bags to fancy dresses, they have everything I love including cute ballet flats and little beaded bags. For me, it was a gold mine.

I was really surprised by how trendy some of the items in the shop are, something that is often difficult to find with smaller op shops. In the trinkets and homewares section everything is in great condition, with full sets of glassware and ceramics and even some impressive artworks, all organised amazingly. I managed to find a few things to decorate my room.

All the way in the very back room of the store there are some more random items, but also a huge range of books, from kids story books to great novels.

The mens section has an amazing array of items as well. A really impressive collection of sneakers and some pretty cool graphic T-shirts.

The kids section as well has a pretty good range of items, from cute little dresses to some trendy denim overalls, I think you’d find just about anything you’d want to dress up your kids this summer.

Overall this op shop was such a pleasant surprise! It’s definitely worth a visit, and it’s quite easy to travel to.

The 223 bus stops right outside the door and is just a 12 minute ride from Footscray station.

There is also parking all along Somerville Road.

It’s open Wednesday to Saturday from 10AM–3:30PM most days, closing at 2PM on saturdays.

Everyone loves shopping, but with Cozzie Livs, global warming, micro-plastic pollution and overflowing landfills it’s important to find stores that are both affordable and sustainable. The perfect solution to both these problems? The good old Op Shop! For the next few months I’ll be visiting and reviewing Op Shops and second-hand stores from all over the westside and hopefully snare a bargain or two at the same time.

It's hard to find local stories because major news suppliers have economised by cutting local journalism. In addition, social media algorithms mean we have to work doubly hard to be seen.
