Join the race to support the Royal Children’s Hospital

Date:

Melbourne’s most iconic fun run, the Herald Sun/Transurban Run for the Kids, returns on Sunday, 6 April 2025, bringing thousands of participants together to raise funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.

The event offers a rare opportunity to run or walk along some of Melbourne’s most significant roads. Both the 14.4km long course and the 4.7km short course include a trip over the Bolte Bridge, providing some of the best views of the city and across to Melbourne’s west.

The long course also takes participants onto the West Gate Freeway before entering the Domain Tunnel.

This year, people will also see firsthand the new and upgraded infrastructure between CityLink and Melbourne’s west.

Since its inception in 2006, Run for the Kids has raised over $22.3 million for the Good Friday Appeal, supporting projects at the Royal Children’s Hospital. The funds contribute to state-of-the-art equipment and technology, patient and family-centred care programs, ground-breaking research, and education programs for hospital staff.

The start line will be located on Footscray Road in Docklands, with participants marshalling in Harbour Esplanade before moving into position.

The finish line will be at Docklands Park on Collins Street, where entrants can relax and celebrate their achievement. With road closures and traffic changes in place, spectators are encouraged to check the Run for the Kids website for details on how to get to the event.

Transurban has been a proud major sponsor since the event’s inception, with hundreds of staff participating as runners, walkers, and volunteers. This year at our activation located on Harbour Esplanade, opposite Marvel Stadium, we’ll have a West Gate Tunnel driver simulator, face painting, 360 Photo Booth and giveaways.

David Clements, Group Executive Operations at Transurban, said the company was excited to once again be part of an event that brings the community together for such an important cause.

“Making every journey a safe one is at the heart of what we do at Transurban, and that includes ensuring a superb course and a positive experience for Run for the Kids participants,”

“Thank you for being part of Victoria’s favourite fun run. Enjoy the day, take in the views, and remember: every step you take raises funds for a truly worthy cause.”

For those not participating, Harbour Esplanade is a great place soak up the atmosphere and watch thousands cross the Bolte Bridge. Run for the Kids continues to be a highlight on Melbourne’s events calendar, bringing together fitness, community spirit, and a shared commitment to supporting the Royal Children’s Hospital.

As part of our commitment to supporting and engaging with the community, Transurban has had a presence at several key events over recent weeks, including the Yarraville Festival where we had an incident response vehicle on site for kids and adults to explore!
